On September 27th, the first annual Open Streets MTC took place in Montclair. The event was held by Montclair Center BID, Montclair Township, the Montclair Police Department, and Bike&Walk Montclair. Streets were closed to motor vehicles so that community members could participate in a number of recreational activities throughout the day. This car-free environment allowed members to bike, skate, run, hula hoop and socialize without having to worry about traffic. The event covered Glenridge Avenue, Church and South Park Street in the town center. A bike rodeo also took place to promote safe bicycling habits amongst children. There were also a number of additional activities, including live musical performances and a Zumba session. BPRC’s Ambassadors in Motion covered the event; their pictures are shown in the slideshow below. At the end of the day, about 300 people came out to support Open Streets in Montclair.
