On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, Woodbridge Township hosted Kids Day Out, an event created to teach kids about health and safety. The event was held on August 26, 2015 at Parker Press Park in Woodbridge, which is popular in the summers for its jam-packed schedule of events and activities for the community to enjoy. Many local vendors, businesses and organizations set up tables around the park, advertising dental offices, martial arts, healthy snacks, fire safety, woodworking, and bicycling safety. Keep Middlesex Moving (KMM), the Transportation Management Association (TMA) for the region, had a table with pamphlets, maps, and free gifts for families in order to spread awareness about bicycling safety. KMM’s Safe Routes to School Coordinator Peter Bilton attended the event along with two of BPRC’s Ambassadors in Motion, Lorena Guadiana and Barkha Patel. As families approached the table, the team quizzed the kids with questions about bicycling safety. Whether or not their answers were correct, the team used the interaction as an opportunity to teach people about the most safe and appropriate ways to ride. The table offered the families reflective stickers and tags, glow-in-the-dark bracelets, bicycle bells, and various pamphlets. The event was a great opportunity to give away useful items to local families, to introduce KMM as a resource for them to find out further information, and to teach about bicycling safety.
