In celebration of Bike Month, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) released three new bicycle tours.

Columbia Trail

These new tours, one in Jersey City and Hoboken, one in Gloucester County and one through the Columbia Trail in Hunterdon and Morris counties are all around 15 miles in length and technologically advanced. Each was created with the ability to sync to a user’s smartphone or GPS in order to track progress and see nearby attractions.

The longest of the new tours is 17 miles. It connects Rowan University, the Glassboro Wildlife Management Area and Scotland Run Park. The 15-mile Columbia Trail runs along the multi-use path that was initially established as the High Bridge Branch of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. In Jersey City and Hoboken a 14-mile loop runs through the waterfront of the cities, offering astonishing views of the New York City skyline.

NJDOT has created more than 25 different bicycle tours. These tours describe, in detail different bicycle rides across the state, from New Jersey’s section of the East Coast Greenway to several different shore rides. There are a variety of tours to accommodate different ability levels and tour lengths. The tours are described online, and they also come with pdf maps, as well as kml files and geospatial pdfs for use on GPS devices.
